Session Work

Albums, guest spots and live stuff

I sometimes turn up in other bands, or on other recordings, as a session musician. I've written and/or recorded rhythm and lead guitars, bass, lyrics and vocals (clean and harsh) for a growing number of projects over the years and I'm always looking for new collaborators. I love the challenge of trying to absorb new music, new ideas, and adapting myself to fit new environments — this usually ends up pushing my own musical practice in new directions.

You can find a handful of interesting things I've done here, and I'll keep it as up to date as I can.

If you'd like me to get involved in something you're doing, email me at bwsloan@gmail.com and let's do it.

If you'd like me to teach you how to do any of it yourself, click down below to book a lesson with me.

Reamp for Hypomanic Daydream, 2025

Marie is a complete artistic genius and everything she touches is brilliant. This cannot be understated. I am immensely proud to have had a minor role in translating her vision from concept to reality, and the results are truly beyond description. You owe it to yourself to listen.

Guitars reamped by Brendan Sloan at Thomson St, February 2025.
Customised mixture of 2 MI Audio Amplifiers and 3 cabinets.

Guest vocals for Reekmind, 2024

Had a yell for an up and coming band of putrid proportions. Be sure to listen to the whole record from the beginning, but you'll find me in the middle of the last track.

FX Guitars for X's For Eyes, 2025

Marc's old band Five Star Prison Cell is one of the best things Australia has ever produced, but his latest thing is on a completely different level of insanity. I was lucky enough to skronk all over Track 5 alongside Adam (ex-FSPC vocals). Blast it!

Improvised guitar scrongles on “We Dance Within These Infinite Circles”

Guest work for Sleepwalker, 2022-2024

I've had the immense pleasure of recording some guest parts for the enigmatic Sleepwalker over the last few years, both instruments and vocals.

Some of it has made its way out into the world, some of it hasn't yet. I'll include what's been made public here as it happens.

Unused takes of the improvised solo on “Jupiterian Convulse Tremor”, some time in 2022

Nightmarer - Deformity Adrift (2023)

Bass guitars composed and recorded February 2022.
Mixed and mastered by Raphael Bovey, 2022

I had the extreme honour of taking over session bass duties in Nightmarer for my buddies Simon, Paul and John. I did my best to meet the self imposed brief of being as good as the handsome Nick McMaster (Geryon, Krallice etc.) was on the prior material — you'll have to tell me if I got there or not.

As a kind of speed run, I wrote and recorded everything at night after working my day job, in the span of a week, in track order, having never heard the songs before. Fun!

Here's a video of how the opening track is played:

Cosmic Putrefaction, 2018/2019

Main and 50% backing vocals on all tracks except “The Herald Prophecy”:

When Gabriele began feeling the itch to work on music after the conclusion of The Clearing Path, it transpired that we would work together on what became Cosmic Putrefaction. Essentially, I sent him a goof clip doing vocals over the top of an instrumental demo he was working on, re-interpreting an old song from a dead band. This spun off into a full-blown LP with me on session vocals, and a cheeky guitar solol.

GG has since gone on to record 3 more albums with himself as the vocalist, and I remain privileged to have been involved at the very beginning of this particular part of his story.

Demo mix version of the solo on “The Ruinous Downfall”. (Trivia: The dives are in fact bends!)

Vocals for Miserist, 2019

Lyric writing, vocal performance and recording on the track Dormant:

Live with Greytomb, guitars and bass, 2017/2018

For a while, I was helping out in the live version of Greytomb. There's some evidence of this below.

Guitar for RHYB, 2017

Guest solo on the track Separation Anxiety:

Live vocals with We Lost The Sea, Europe 2017

Joined my friends on stage a few times in Europe to celebrate the life of Chris Torpy by playing “Balaclava Cold” in his honour. This one was recorded in the hull of a permanently moored boat in the middle of Budapest.
